HALDENBERGANTRIEBSTECHNIK
Company

Family-owned since 1958. Third generation today.

We are a mid-sized gearbox manufacturer with 168 employees in Aalen, Germany. No group, no holding — the shareholders work in the building.

It started in 1958 in a workshop on Haldenberger Strasse: Wilhelm Haldenberg turned parts for the region's machine tool builders. That it became a gearbox manufacturer came down to a complaint — in 1969 a customer brought back a bought-in gearbox whose backlash had drifted after eight weeks.

Two years later we shipped our first own planetary gearbox. The standard has not changed since: build gearboxes that still reach the same position after years of three-shift operation as they did on day one. What has changed is how much we make ourselves — gear cutting, heat treatment, grinding and the metrology lab are all in-house today.

What happened over 68 years

  1. 1958

Founded as a contract turning shop

Wilhelm Haldenberg starts with three lathes and two employees.

  2. 1971

    First own planetary gearbox

Two-stage, for a rotary indexing machine in Schwäbisch Gmünd. That gearbox ran until 2004.

  3. 1986

    Our own heat treatment shop

An end to four-week waits at the contract hardener — and to batches whose distortion nobody could explain.

  4. 1994

    Second generation

Ingrid and Peter Haldenberg take over the management.

  5. 2003

    Tooth flank grinding in-house

First profile grinding machine. From here, DIN quality 5 becomes the series standard.

  6. 2012

    HGX range

Helical and preloaded — the answer to axes that have to stay below one arcminute.

  7. 2019

    Third generation

Christine and Matthias Haldenberg join the management.

  8. 2024

    New assembly hall

1,900 m², held at 20 °C, with six test benches in final assembly.

We have trained apprentices since 1969

Of our 168 employees, 51 did their apprenticeship here. Whoever starts with us is standing at a machine after two weeks, not at the photocopier.

Sustainability, as far as it can be measured

01

Photovoltaics on 6,200 m² of roof

Covers 41 % of annual electricity demand. The heat treatment shop runs preferentially around midday.

02

Waste heat from heat treatment

Heats assembly and administration. Gas consumption is down 58 % since 2019.

03

Coolant kept in circulation

Central reconditioning instead of individual tanks — 71 % less fresh mix per year.
